About the GVC-NYCLU
WHO
WE ARE
The American Civil
Liberties Union is a national membership
organization with over 500,000 members in fifty states. GVC
is a regional chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, a state
affiliate. We serve the following counties: Genesee, Livingston,
Monroe,
Ontario,
Orleans,
Steuben, Wayne,
Wyoming
and Yates. Our mission is to preserve and protect the Constitutional
freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights for all who live in America.
WHAT WE DO
The Genesee Valley
Chapter is dedicated to safeguarding the liberties and rights of the
people we serve through advocacy and litigation; legislative action;
and public education. We are involved in state and national issues,
with a special focus on members of the greater Rochester area
and
nine county
Genesee
Valley

New York’s Highest Court Denies Review of Ruling Recognizing Lesbian Couple’s Canadian Marriage
May 6, 2008 -- Today, New York’s highest court handed down a victory for many gay and lesbian couples throughout the state by letting stand an appellate court’s groundbreaking ruling that recognized same-sex couples’ valid out-of-state marriages.

NYCLU Files Court Papers Supporting Rochester Curfew Challenge
April 23, 2008 -- The New York Civil Liberties Union today filed papers in an appellate court in support of a lawsuit challenging Rochester’s curfew law. The filing asked the court for permission to file a friend-of-the-court brief arguing that the curfew violates the constitutional rights of parents and their children.
