VOLUNTEERING

Committees are a vital part of the ACLU of Rochester and Genesee Valley. General meeting times are indicated in the committee description. Your participation is welcomed. Please call the office (585/454-4334) or email us at geneseevalley@nyclu.org for times and locations.

LEGAL COMMITTEE
Join the team! A mixed group of volunteers (lawyers and non) meet monthly to review significant complaints received by the ACLU office during the previous month. The committee suggests ideas for legal approaches, strategies and resolutions. Meets monthly at 12:15-1:30 downtown.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE
Love to organize? The Program Committee is an active and fun committee that orchestrates the major education events for the chapter.  The Student Film Festival and the Liberty! Conference were new initiatives in 2006-2007.  Both events target young adults aged 16-23.

FUND RAISING COMMITTEE
If you enjoy talking with people, feel strongly about civil liberties, and want to educate and inspire people to get active, then working with the fundraising committee is an excellent opportunity to have fun, while helping to sustain and expand civil liberties work throughout our region.

Committee members plan and host thank-you events, make periodic calls to members, and create opportunities to share exciting news with those who care most deeply about the vitality and expansion of the Genesee Valley Chapter.  In addition, the committee organizes the two successful and well-established fundraising events each year, the Baldwin Raffle and the Friends of the GVC.

BILL OF RIGHTS DEFENSE CAMPAIGN
Interested in legislation or mobilization? The Bill of Rights committee provides speakers to groups large and small, on a variety of civil liberties topics. In addition, the committee actively supports legislation that opposes the USA Patriot Act. Finally, the committee is mobilizing students, Rochester residents and members of Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario, Yates and Steuben counties to stand up and be heard. Meets monthly at noon at the ACLU office.
